How to catch a domain that is about to expire

To catch an expiring domain, first identify the extension and understand its release process. The same method does not work equally well for .com, .it, .eu or other extensions.

After identifying the target, monitor its status and expected release window. Check whether it is still renewable by the current holder, whether it has entered redemption, and when pending delete or release is expected.

For valuable domains, manual registration is rarely enough. A backorder platform can send registration attempts at the exact release moment and may have technical advantages over a manual user.

If multiple people order the same domain on the same platform, the platform may assign it by auction or according to its own rules. If different platforms compete, the winner is usually the one that successfully registers the domain first.

Before placing the order, set a maximum budget. Backorder opportunities can become emotional quickly, especially when a domain looks perfect for a project. A clear limit helps avoid paying more than the domain is worth to you.
